Old Colorado Inn

211 Colorado Ave, Stuart, FL

imgSTUART — A new boutique hotel has just opened in historic downtown.
Just before the holidays, Stuart attorney Steven Vitale opened Old Colorado Inn at 211 Colorado Ave.
Vitale created the inn from a 1917 commercial/residential building he purchased several years ago along with a block of commercial buildings between Osceola and Seminole streets.

While not officially a bed-and-breakfast, Vitale said his wife Ashley Vitale provides guests with Natalie’s Orchid Island orange juice, pastries and bagels from Bagel Brothers of New York and a newspaper each morning.

The staff at the Martin County Convention & Visitors Bureau toured the colorful new accommodations in mid-December.

“Not only did we tour it, we had a V.I.P. from Superior Small Lodgings stay there. He was raving about it,” said Rozeta Mahboubi, the bureau’s executive director.

The apartment building had the potential to be a charming bed-and-breakfast, Mahboubi said, and the Vitales did a fabulous job of creating spacious rooms and in blending the Old Florida feel with modern luxuries.

While he did not have the exact costs, Vitale said the change from apartments to lodging cost several hundred thousand dollars including renovations, granite countertops, polished Dade County pine floors, and luxury furnishings and amenities.

Vitale said he is trying to create five-star luxury accommodations at an attractive price.

The ‘Luxe Studio is $159 per night; one-bedroom suites are $179 per night and the Cottage is $239 per night in season, Vitale said. “And each has a (furnished) kitchen and a Keurig coffee station. People like that.”

Vitale said he is getting reservations for a month or more at a time. He’s had calls from couples in Scotland and Canada.”They’re seeing the reviews on TripAdvisor and calling to make reservations.”

“I’m also surprised that we have had so many locals,” Vitale said. They tell him they want a nearby weekend getaway and, because the inn is downtown, they can walk to shopping, dining and to The Lyric Theatre.

The inn includes seven units in the first phase.

“And if this does well, I’ll add 15 units in a second phase,” Vitale said. “That’s the perfect size for Stuart.”
Phase two will renovate the 1914 Coventry Hotel on the corner of Colorado Avenue and Seminole Street and make it part of Old Colorado Inn.

Our Testimonials

"My wife and I loved our stay at this Inn last month. The owners have done a wonderful job renovating the historic building. The decor is beautiful and elegant, and very much in keeping with the charm of an historic Inn. Everything from the colors, to the wall paper, to the beautiful stone tiles in the baths and kitchens, and the new furniture, accent pieces and flat screen tv creates a feeling of warmth and coziness with all the modern amenities. The bed was especially comfortable and the sheets and comforter add to the feeling of luxury and charm, but packaged in a small Inn in historic downtown Stuart. Sitting on the veranda and looking out over the downtown area and the St Lucie River is very relaxing. The beautiful kitchenette is fully stocked and included a coffee maker with K-cups. The fresh baked cookies in the evenings, and bagels, muffins and orange juice that are delivered at 7:30 am by the owner Steven is a real treat. And the location cannot be beat. The Inn is literally just steps from an array of restaurants, theatres and terrific shopping. And the beach is only minutes away. If you're looking for a relaxing stay at a beautiful, historic Inn, while being comforted by modern amenities and the personal touch of the owner, you need look no further than the Old Colorado Inn. We can't wait until our next visit! A Google User"
